-Learning the songs first. Approximately one new song every 1-2 weeks
This course is designed for people who want to learn rock, blues, and metal by focusing on learning songs and technique before tackling the technical stuff ( scales, arpeggios, chord construction, etc.) Learning how to play electric guitar presents a particular challenge in that one can spend years bogged down learning the academic material which may not be the best way to spend your practise time if your tastes run more towards basic rock and roll like Nirvana, ACDC, etc. This is not to minimize the importance of knowing the theory if you want to the very best musician you can be, but many people just want to play the music they love and have fun doing it. Even if your goal is to become a professional guitarist I feel that the best approach is to get the instrument in your hands and learn how to play the music first.
Most beginning students take this course before attempting the PRO GUITAR COURSE
Why do most people have difficulties learning how to play electric guitar
Electric guitar music is much different than acoustic in that every song has a different rhythm part and one cannot approach it by learning the template strumming patterns as is the case with campfire guitar. Rock and Blues strumming and lead rhythms are often very complex and even a simple rock song like "Teen Spirit" will not sound right unless the rhythm in your guitar playing is dead on . This complexity in modern music presents a particular problem for the teacher in that you can show a student where to place their fingers to play a part but if the student can't get the groove immediately it is very easy to become bogged down. As a result learning songs becomes a slow tedious process for the student.
If you the student had many years of piano training and could read music well it would be possible to transcribe rock music into music notation and teach you the music that way. However the rhythms to even a simple rock song often require an advanced reading ability and very few beginning guitarists have the benefit of years of piano training. Even if you could read music that well there is still the following problem that "rock guitar music is ear music and can't be properly learned from a piece of paper any more than someone can learn hockey from a book". In fact the only way to learn rock music is the same way all of the great players do - BY EAR. This requires the beginning guitarist to rely on memory alone for learning the rhythms when practising at home.
I found that the major problem with teaching people rock songs prior to the creation of my site is that not all students could remember the rhythms to the songs once they got home after the lesson. Anybody can learn how to play guitar when taught properly but not everybody has a photographic memory for remembering the rhythms of the song. What was needed was a system for practising that allows students to hear the music as they practise.
Get the rhythms right
I developed this course after listening to feedback from students. After many hours of developing and testing I can report that it really works for any level guitar student. Even on complex material. The key is that you the student can hear the parts that you are learning which makes it easy to learn the material by ear while still having the notation and tab to show you the fingerings. Each course unit on the website contains the most requested rock songs starting with easier material and graduating to more complex pieces. You won't have to guess anymore as to whether or not you are playing the material correctly. You can learn the music at your own pace with a backup band that never complains and is always available day or night . More importantly you learn how to keep the tempo steady as you are always practising with a perfect metronome accompaniment track that can be sped up or slowed down to a speed that you are comfortable with. Any professional musician will tell you that it is absolutely essential for a guitarist of any style to have rock solid timing which you will develop naturally in your playing as you learn the music using the site.
