Learn to Play Songs in 10 Weeks
I can teach you what you need to know to play competently in 10 weeks.
I can't guarantee that you will progress from beginner status to master
in 10 weeks. No credible teacher can honestly guarantee that. Becoming
a decent guitar player will take time and some effort on your part.
What I can guarantee is that you will know in 10 weeks time
how to teach yourself to be a real player.
I can show you:
1. What to practice
2. How to practice
3. Only the stuff that you need to know to do the job
4. How to eliminate the guessing of what to work on
You can spend years practicing the wrong things getting nowhere.
Over the years as a full time professional guitarist I had encountered
hundreds of people who had given up on guitar. Many of these people
had put long hours in and had bought every book and magazine on the
subject. What I always told them was that the frustration they were
feeling was not a lack of talent but simply a result of not practicing
the right material.
I also notice that there were virtually no books available that taught
a complete playing system that addressed their needs. To be able to
play songs, maybe sing along and not clear the room.
At the time I was busy playing full time on the road but I promised
myself that someday I was going to put together a system for the people
who wanted to play.
In 2004 I was approached by Fanshawe College in London Ontario to
design a 10 week program to teach people how to play basic campfire
guitar. The focus was to be on teaching people how to competently
play basic versions of pop songs. The course has proven to be very
successful.
The idea was to give the students the essential knowledge of what
and how to practice that they could then use to teach themselves.
Little things like how to use a metronome and proper strumming techniques
make all the difference in the world if learned properly.
This course came about as a result. Many students have taken the same
course and have experienced big results.
I recognized the fact that most aspiring guitar students struggle
through dreary textbooks and take lessons from teachers who don't
understand what they want to do.
There are only 9 basic chords and 9 rhythms that can be used to play
most popular songs. I often tell my students that I could perform
the bulk of my show using a capo and limiting myself to 9 chords and
9 rhythms.
